This novel may not be for everyone. It is indeed no light read and can require a bit of mental focus. UGG! I personally developed my own timeline to keep track of the comings and goings between decades/centuries. BUT, Kate Morton is a masterful storyteller. She weaves you from 19th century to the 21st century with alluring skill, and makes it seem easy! If you are like myself, and enjoy the challenge of trying to figure everything out before the end, you will be awarded with some surprises. I love it when a novel can keep me guessing and this one did that and so much more!!!

These are not books, lumps of lifeless paper, but minds alive on the shelves. From each of them goes out its own voice... and just as the touch of a button on our set will fill the room with music, so by taking down one of these volumes and opening it, one can call into range the voice of a man far distant in time and space, and hear him speaking to us, mind to mind, heart to heart. -Gilbert Highet
